Health is not the Absence of Disease
Health is not the absence of disease.
Lets read that again.
The World Health Organization defines health as
a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Physical, mental, and social well-being.
In every intake I do with a patient, I ask about their mental health, their emotional well-being. I ask about supportive relationships. I ask about stress - work, home, every day stressors.
Yes, absolutely I ask about physical health. But I care deeply about your "HEALTH." The health of the physical body relies and integrates heavily with mental well-being, individually and collectively as a society. It relies on social well-being. It depends on the health of the surrounding community as a whole. And on the health of the environment in which we live. In my mind, physical health is really just a manifestation of all of the rest of it.
So tell me, how is your health?
